Redesigned Exterior On A New Platform
The 2020 Lexus ES has been redesigned from top to bottom. The redesign stemmed from the ES being built on an entirely new platform – the Global Architecture-K platform. The ES redesign on this new platform actually resulted in the ES being physically bigger than previous generations. The 2020 ES is 2.5-inches longer, 0.2-inches lower, 1.8-inches wider, and has a 2-inch longer wheelbase. This may not seem like much but this slight increase results in an entirely new stance and overall handling attitude.
The most noticeable areas of redesign are the front and rear fascia’s. The front grille has been updated with the latest version of the Lexus signature grille, but the ES features unique satin plated trim and vertical pattern in the grille. All the exterior lighting on the ES has been updated with “L”-shaped signature markers, lenses, and projector units like all new 2020 models. The hood and trunk have been updated with a slightly lower profile making the overall design sleeker than previous model years. The 2020 ES features more available colors and wheel options than before, as well. All in all, this new generation of the Lexus ES is sleeker with more of an aggressive or athletic style profile than ever before.
More Interior Tech Than Ever Before
All of the new 2020 Lexus models are being redesigned with the same style of driver-centric cockpit like is in the LC models. This concept has only be introduced in the LC and LS until now, as the 2020 ES cockpit has been redesigned. The longer wheelbase and wider body allow for more headroom and legroom for the cabin of the ES. The new 2020 ES interior features luxury finishes and quality like a plush, hand-stitched dash, aluminum sports pedals, and wood inlays. The leather seating is available in a wide variety of color options, as well as, in heated and ventilated options.
The standard and available technology and safety features in the 2020 ES are the most advanced they have ever been. The infotainment system is housed in a 12.3-inch screen and can be controlled with voice commands and by using an updated Remote Touch Interface (RTI) pad. The ES also features a full-color heads-up display that is the largest in the segment. The new ES is the first Lexus model to offer Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility. Most importantly, the 2020 Lexus ES will feature the entire Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 standard in all model trim levels. The all-new ES gives you more safety features, more technology, and more comfort than any ES prior.
Improved Power & Efficiency
The 2020 Lexus ES 350 received upgrades to its powertrain during the redesign too. These upgrades were not just a few horsepower or extra miles per gallon. Rather, the new ES received 34 more horsepower and 19 more lb-ft of torque than last year. The new ES features an 8-speed transmission paired to a redesigned V6 that makes 302 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. Even with all the added power and torque, the ES 350 is also actually more efficient than before. The fuel economy estimates of 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 26 mpg in combined are an improvement from the last generation of the ES.
The new 2020 ES 300 Hybrid also has an improved powertrain. The ES 300h is still being produced for the ES lineup marking the 4th-generation of the ES hybrid. The ES 300h comes with a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder hybrid gas-electric engine. An all-new hybrid transaxle has been added to the powertrain for improved performance and efficiency. This new combination results in a total of 215 horsepower and an estimated 44 mpg city/highway combined. The upgraded powertrain in new generation of the ES 300h gives us an additional 20 horsepower and an additional 12 lb-ft of torque, and better fuel economy than the previous generation. All models of the ES have improved power, efficiency, and handling as part of the redesign for the new generation.
